Health services are becoming permanent in Somalia

KYM officials signed a agreement with Somali government officials related to the operation of the maternity and children's units at Benadir, the biggest hospital in the region.

The agreement is the first step in creating permanent health services in Somalia. Patients in the maternity and children's units of Benadir Hospital will be handled by Turkish doctors.

Hospital Equipment Improvement

The KYM volunteer doctors who are experienced about hospital management reported the various needs for Benadir and will be carrying them out.

KYM Foundation's Somalia Representative Orhan Erdogan stated that the equipment will be improved for the volunteer doctors, and also that the volunteer doctors which came on September 1st and September 12th, the third and fourth health teams, are continuing to conduct health services on a regular basis.
 
Health Education for Somali Employees

In terms of permanent assistance, health education is seen as the third step and makes a significant part of the relief work in Somalia. After the necessary negotiations with the Somalian Health Ministry, Benadir Hospital doctors and health employees will be trained by Turkish doctors. Domestic workers are targeted to make the project sustainable at the hospital in cooperation with the Somalian state.


165 Doctors will be working in Somalia until the End of 2011

KYM Foundation's Emergency Operations Manager Atıf Ulusoy gave a statement that 165 KYM volunteer doctors will be joining the permanent health project at Benadir Hospital until the end of the year. Every twenty days, one health team will travel to Somalia including woman doctors. On September 12th, a team of female doctors specializing in woman and children's diseases went along with the 4th health team to Somalia.
