Turkish aid ship, volunteer doctors depart for Somalia

The "Humanitarianism Is Not Dead" ship departed for Somalia

KYM officials, donators, and volunteers saw the "Humanitarianism Is Not Dead" ship, which held 3,700 tons of aid, off from Mersin port on August 23nd.

Mersin Deputy - Ahmet Tevfik Uzun, Mersin Governor - Hasan Basri Uzunoglu, KYM President Unal Ozturk, business people, foundation voluteers, and the people of Mersin joined the ceremony.

The "Humanitarianism Is Not Dead" campaign meticulously carried on for three weeks collecting donations during the "African Food Campaign" and included them in the 185 container ship holding a total of 3700 tons of aid.

The cargo of the "Humanitarianism Is Not Dead" ship are sugar, rice, flour, bulgur, pasta, oil, baby biscuits; and also men and womans clothing, tents and various fabric. The total value of the ship's aid is estimated at 7.5 million TL.

The aid ship will reach Somalia after a 15 day journey.

KYM sends a team of 16 medical volunteers to Somalia

A 16-man team of doctors, pharmacists and medical personel went to Somalia as KYM's volunteers. The volunteers brought 2 tons of medicines along with them.

With the organization of KYM and the International Health and Education Association (USEDER) volunteers doctors will offer their health services in Somalia between the 16th and 26th of August.

2 tons of medicine were sent to the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu with the volunteer doctors for the people who are dying of hunger and disease.

The health assistance team in the region will prepare a comprehensive report which will serve as a roadmap on how to move from this point on and what to expect in giving health care.

KYM foundation Emergency Operations Manager Atif Ulusoy illustrated that they are working with the support of the Turkish Republic PM TIKA and the Ministry of Health for KYM's health aid activities. KYM has already sent medicine and health aids to the region, and is now sending another 2 tons of medicine with volunteer doctors. KYM will be establishing long term health services in Somalia. Ulusoy also stated that volunteer medical teams, medicines and medical equipment will continue to be sent to the region.
