Gülen files libel suit against three Fenerbahçe members
Well-respected Turkish scholar and intellectual Fethullah Gülen has filed a libel suit against Ogün Altıparmak, Funda Pala and Özgür Kandil, all members of the Fenerbahçe football club, for remarks they made about him and the Hizmet movement at Fenerbahçe's latest congress on May 19, according to the Vatan daily.

The role of civil society in Turkey's democratization

In the speech I delivered at a conference titled “Democracy and Social Conflict in Korea and Turkey” held by Seoul University last week, I noted that although it appears the entity that has led the recent historic democratic transformation in Turkey is the Justice and Development Party (AKP) -- i.e., a political party that is part of the political superstructure -- the real driving force behind this change is the ever-growing sociopolitical infrastructure. I further underlined the undeniable role the Hizmet movement, inspired by the ideas of the esteemed Fethullah Gülen, as a rising part of Turkey's sociopolitical infrastructure, is playing in Turkey's democratic transformation. Now, I will try to elaborate on this argument.

International Science Olympiad opens in Abuja

The third edition of the International Science Olympiad (ISO) opened in Abuja on Friday with more than 70 students from 18 countries participating in the competition.
The ISO tests students in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Computer Science and Chemistry.
Prof. Bunyamin Kaptanoglu, the Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Turkish Nile University (NTNU), Abuja, at the opening of the competition, said: "Unlike other Olympiads that have students compete in only one subject, this one will feature five science subjects."

The Governor and his delegation had a meeting with KYM President Unal Ozturk and KYM General Secretary Celal Turkoglu which lasted approximately one hour. During the meeting views were exchanged regarding the ongoing projects in Somalia and Mogadishu.
