Students who travelled to Turkey for the 9th International Turkish Olympiads, in which they perform in Turkish, on Friday participated in a song contest, singing songs in their native languages.
In the song contest, students sang songs in languages such as English, Arabic, Japanese, Italian and many other languages from around the world.
Turkish Olympiads Secretary-General Tuncay Öztürk said that special importance was given to performances in the students' native languages this year, in line with the motto of the Olympiads, “Come and let's get acquainted.”
“In this way there has been a mutual getting acquainted. We have had the opportunity to learn about their culture and they have had the opportunity to learn about our culture,” he noted.
The winner of the song contest was Jonna Mae Mateo, 15, from the Philippines with the song, “I surrender.” Jonna, who failed to make it to the song final of the Turkish Olympiads held in İstanbul earlier this week because of her inadequate Turkish, was the winner of yesterday's song contest.
