A private hospital in the province of Erzurum has been forced to close its doors as of Friday, and 400 people will lose their jobs as a result of the politically motivated move to close the facility.
The Özel Şifa Hastanesi in the northeastern province of Erzurum had its health license suspended following a court decision cancelling its agreement with the Social Security Administration (SGK).
The hospital had been open in Erzurum since 2005. Opened and operated by followers of the Hizmet movement, it is believed that the closure of the hospital was politically motivated as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) have vowed to finish off the movement. Erdoğan himself has openly referred to his struggles against Hizmet as a “witch hunt.”
