Leading Turkish news agency Cihan has announced its new general manager as Faruk Akkan, former head of the agency's Moscow bureau, a statement said on Wednesday.
Cihan's former head Abdulhamit Bilici had replaced Ekrem Dumanlı as the new editor-in-chief of Turkish daily Zaman in October. Akkan had worked as the Cihan Moscow representative for a decade. He graduated from Boğaziçi University in İstanbul and completed a master's degree in international relations at İstanbul University. Prior to his appointment as Cihan's Moscow office head, Akkan worked as a foreign news editor for the same news agency.
Born in Konya, Akkan speaks fluent Russian and English. The Cihan news agency has built a reputation for its effective nationwide and global reporting network. Many leading TV channels, websites and news portals in Turkey use Cihan as their primary source of information. The agency has also dominated the political election coverage sector in Turkey over the past two decades. It has won the praise of many media organizations for its coverage of the past eight elections in the country.
