People living in the southern province of Erzurum expressed their discontent with slandering insults made by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan against Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen and Hizmet Movement.
Erdoğan made harsh and strong statements against the Hizmet movement when it became evident that his government wanted to shut down the prep schools. In an Ankara Chamber of Commerce event on Feb. 21, Erdoğan brought his harsh rhetoric to an unprecedented level, calling members of the Hizmet movement blood-sucking vampires. His inflammatory remarks are bound to create further polarization and his endless use of hate speech doesn't help preserve social cohesion and peace.
A citizen said Erdoğan insulted spiritual values of Erzurum, where Gülen was born and he demanded vote from them. Another citizen said they condemn such insults directed at an Islamic scholar. Erzurum people left the rally area when they heard hate speech by Erdoğan against Gülen and Hizmet.
