Toronto Nile Academy students’ worthwhile donation for the Philippines

The students of Nile Academy in Toronto, Canada, delivered the monetary donation from their pocket money to the Philippine Consul General in Toronto.

Accompanied by Anatolian Heritage Federation’s foreign relations coordinator, Mehmet Gul, and the school’s teachers, the donor students from various grades were received by the consul general Junever Mahilum-West in person. Mahilum-West closely engaged and had chats with her guests. “Everyone is helping the Filipino people, but yours is much more different and meaningful as it comes from young students.”

Junever Mahilum-West recalled that Turkey was the first country to help the Philippines in the wake of the Haiyan typhoon and went on to say “Your aid will always be remembered.”

Following the visit, Anatolian Heritage Federation’s foreign relations coordinator, Mehmet Gul, spoke to AA (Anadolu Agency). Gul said they are proud that Turkey was first to extend help to the Philippines. “This aid in the amount of $2,000 from our students’ pocket money is symbolic.” He also revealed that they are gearing up for a charity event among Turkish community in Canada on December 14th, donations of which will be channeled to the Philippines. Closing the visit, Gul and the students signed the condolence book to mark the visit.
