Journalists and Writers Foundation's Press Release

Journalists and Writers Foundation

The president of our foundation, Mustafa Yeşil, was invited by the Ambassador of the European Union term president to the "Traditional Lunch Meeting of Ambassadors of European Union Member Countries' Ambassadors" on Thursday December 19.

The meeting in question is regularly held every month by the ambassador of the EU term president. During these meetings, speakers brief ambassadors about matters that are related to their expertise and areas of interest.

Previously, many civil society organizations (CSOs) and representatives of the government have attended these organizations. For example, Former Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Şahin, Ombudsman Mehmet Nihat Ömeroğlu, EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bağış and academic Fuat Keyman, to name few, have attended these meetings.

Despite this fact, certain media outlets published distorted news stories about the meeting attended by our Foundation so as to pave the way for inconceivable accusations such as treason, espionage or collaboration with international powers against the interests of our country.

The details about the meeting organized by EU term president Lithuania were posted on our website. Ironically enough, the event announced on our website was marketed by the media outlets in question as a journalistic achievement, thereby exposing our Foundation to unfair accusations and defamation.

We hereby note that we will seek legal remedies against people and organizations that perpetrate the accusations and defamation in question.
