Ufuk Dialogue Foundation brings together Nigerians over iftar

The annually held Dialogue and Peace Iftar Dinner by Ufuk (Horizon) Dialogue Foundation took place in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. The event saw high attendance of guests including senators, bureaucrats, academics, businesspeople, religious figures, journalists and ambassadors.

In his address at the event held in a dialogue atmosphere, Ufuk Dialogue Foundation President Oguzhan Dirican noted that the foundation has been promoting not a clash of civilizations but collaboration and dialogue, for which it finds it motivation in faith, human values and confidence in the essence of creation.

Peace and dialogue awards were presented to their winners at the night. The two prominent Nigerian dailies, Daily Trust and Leadership, were bestowed dialogue awards in recognition of their publishing policies and ethics encouraging peace and coexistence. All the guests holding hands posed for a picture later at the end of the night.

Following the event, in his statements to Cihan News Agency, Abuja Anglican Church Primate Nicholas Okoh said, “We’ve been in touch with Ufuk Dialogue Foundation for two years and co-organizing similar events bringing people together in order to remove prejudices and enlighten people. Thus, we aim to foster coexistence possibilities in society.”

Speaking of his impressions of Turkish people, Al-Hikmah University Rector Suleiman Age Abdulkarim said, “I believe Turkish people should be held up as examples in Nigeria. Turks are people who embrace you as their brothers and present an exemplary morality and behaviors.”

The assistant manager of Nigerian national football team and a former renowned player in Besiktas (a Turkish football team), Daniel Amokachi reflected as follows: “It is of great importance that some are bringing together people of diverse ethnicities and faiths. Given the crises in Syria, Egypt and various parts of the world, people are apparently coming together through dialogue.”

“I’m still the Black Bull. Although I quit playing football and became a manager, I still very much love Istanbul and Besiktas. I hope Besiktas will be crowned champions this year,” said the former Besiktas star.

The annually held Dialogue and Peace Iftar dinners are contributing the friendship between Turkey and Nigeria.
