“The Gulen Movement” by Cetin now available in Indonesian

“The Gulen Movement: Civic Service without Borders” by sociologist Muhammed Cetin, PhD, has been translated into Indonesian by Indonesia University. The book was introduced at an event with the participation of the author Cetin.

In addition to Dr. Cetin, former rector of Indonesia University Prof. Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri and International Relations expert Dr. Dwi Ardhanariswari gave their presentations during the event which saw the participation of about 300 academics and students.

In his part, Cetin presented an analysis of the Gulen Movement from a sociological perspective. He pointed out that the movement has been well-received all around the world. “Everyone has an individual identity above all. Before adopting a cultural and religious identity and a citizenship, every human being displays an intrinsic identity, namely, his/her humanity. The Gulen Movement functions with this principle and embraces everyone” said Cetin.

Dr. Ardhanariswari, besides his academic interpretation on the book, raised the question that he himself offered an answer: “I was wondering why the movement was always organizing dinners to dialogue with faith leaders, politicians and academics. Then it occurred to me that dinner is when human mood and psychology is most relaxed and open to converse, interact and exchange values. During that time everyone is connected on the same level.” He went on to say “Obviously the Gulen Movement is doing everything for the sake of humanity and is building up his social life to enhance the human.”

The Gulen Movement: Civic Service without Borders by Muhammed Cetin, PhD, originally published in English, has excited interest in Europe and the US. Its Indonesian translation aimed at better understanding the Gulen Movement and spreading the word is too anticipated to achieve the same.
