90 students from 17 countries who traveled to Turkey as part of an EU project coordinated by Ankara’s Gazi University prepared aid packages at the facilities of the charitable organization Kimse Yok Mu (Is Anybody There?) on Thursday.
The students, who come from countries including the UK, Italy, Israel, Palestine, Armenia, Tunisia and Greece, will stay in Turkey throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins on July 20, and take part in charitable activities during the month. On Thursday the group visited the Kimse Yok Mu facilities in Ankara’s Kayaş neighborhood. After being briefed on the activities of the organization, they moved on to the organization’s warehouse and divided into groups. One group packaged the goods, another arranged for them to be put in boxes and a third joined a team to distribute packages to families from Somalia and Yemen, living in accommodation in the Aydınlıkevler neighborhood of Ankara. Speaking to Today’s Zaman about the project, Gazi University Professor Murat Savaş said the project aims to boost participation of youth in civil society organizations.
