1,500+ Sudanese children have been circumcised in 2 days

More than 1,500 children have been circumcised in 2 days during the Somalia-Sudan Circumcision Campaign which was launched with the cooperation of KYM and ESAFED (Aegean International Federation of Health).

Since May 7th, the start of the campaign, 750 children in the Medeni region, 700 children in the Atbara region, and 130 children in the Port Sudan region had circumcisions. 3 health teams, including 6 people each, are continuing to perform circumcision operations in 4 different cities (Hartum, Fendi, Medeni, and Port Sudan.)


10,000 children will be circumcised

The health team, which circumcised 1,000 children in Hartum, aims to circumcise 3,000 more children and to reach a total of 10,000 circumcisions. The cost of one circumcision is $50 or 90TL.

Local Health Workers are being Trained

Another goal of the medical teams is to contribute to the training of the local health care members. Each of the 3 KYM heath teams include 4 local health care staff members. On the other hand, the circumcision organization is giving circumcision clothing, a pair of slippers, a local cap, and also toys as gifts to the children who are receiving the joy of circumcision.

650 children in Somalia circumcised in 2011

The circumcision campaign began on November 1st, 2011. Somali families applied to KYM's outpatient clinic and 650 circumcisions were performed by volunteer doctors and medical personnel. The President of TIKA Dr. Serdar Cam and AK Parti Deputy Chairman Huseyin Tanriverdi participated in the organization and shared in the happiness.
