In Washington D-C, the 6th Annual 2011 RUMI Peace and Dialogue Awards drew a crowd of supporters dedicated to peace and understanding worldwide.
The evening kicked off with President of the Rumi Forum, Emre Celik describing the purpose of the ceremony.
Held in the ballroom of Washington's National Press Club, the ceremony honored individuals and organizations from all backgrounds and professional achievements.
Among those recognized were Joshua DuBois, executive director of the White House office of Faith Based Partnerships and Dr. Alan Merten, President, George Mason University.
Each one thanked the Rumi Forum for the honor, and expressed a common desire to create a world full of peace and harmony.
South African Activist and Nobel Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu's daughter, Naomi accepted the Extraordinary Commitment to Dialogue and Reconciliation Award on behalf of her father.
More than 200 people enjoyed a fine dinner and a video presentation about the RUMI organization.
Founded in 1999, the mission of the Rumi Forum is to foster interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
