160 tons of relief supplies were sent to Somalia

The drought that has swept over East Africa has become a major human catastrophe, especially the border regions of Somalia, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. African people are struggling with death and have left their towns and cities to come to camps on the borders. Kimse Yok Mu (KYM) arrived to the region of African Horn when the crisis started and KYM is continuing non-stop to help, sending 7 containers of basic food assistance to Somalia by ship from Mersin.

KYM gave food packages and Ramadan meat to 9,500 Somalian families, food packages and Ramadan meat to 1,500 Ethiopian families, food packages to 3,000 and Ramadan meat to 1,500 families in Uganda, and everyday in Somalia KYM is giving meals to 2,000 people.

KYM President, Unal Ozturk, gave a statement to journalists about the KYM officials who continue to help in Somali, Ethiopia and Uganda at Tat Bakliyat factory near the Adana/Mersin highway. He said, "Our friends have started and are continuing to give what is needed in those regions such as food and water. We accumulate the cash assistance from the charitable and continue to send it to these regions."

Emphasizing the importance of cash assistance for the drought regions Ozturk said, "Only sending food and clothing is not going to solve the issue. It's not enough. They also need cash in order to solve this problem." Ozturk also added that from now on, every weekend, we will be sending everything we have to Somalia, Ethiopia and Uganda.

Also providing information about the basic food items needed, Ozturk said, "From rice to flour, sugar and oil. Especially rice flour (baby formula) and baby biscuits for feeding children are needed. The women do not have shoes to wear or even clothing. Any women's clothing or cloth can help. Children's clothing is also needed. Children are forced to walk barefoot on the raw land in 50 degree temperatures."
