Cahit Nakıboğlu, the executive board manager of the Gaziantep-based company, Naksan Holding, said in a written statement on Monday that the company is no longer a member of the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) and “does not wish to be associated with any group from now on.” Nakıboğlu added that the holding is committed to working in close cooperation with the government. The company's severing of ties with TUSKON makes it the second significant member to have left the confederation in one week. A senior official from the Central Anatolian furniture conglomerate Boydak Holding also announced its break with TUSKON over the weekend.
TUSKON saw some of its members raided in a politically-motivated police operation last Friday.
TUSKON said on Sunday its member businesspersons were being threatened by high-ranking state officials to end their membership in the union, and denounced growing pressure on government critics in the country.
